Ahhhh…. Paradise! Sarasota was recently named one of Trip Advisor’s Top 10 Beach and Sun Destinations in the US
and Sarasota’s Siesta Key has earned the number two spot on Dr. Beach’s 2010 Top 10 Beaches list – again! The Sarasota real estate market is looking better and better. Both sales and the median price range continue to escalate. If you are considering home ownership in the Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice area, now is a very good time to make a purchase. While the oil spill off the coast of Louisiana is clearly a horrific tragedy (and you may have heard that beaches in Florida are being affected) we would like you to be aware that those beaches are in the panhandle and are nearly 500 miles from Sarasota. In southwest Florida, we have seen no evidence of oil in our water or on our beaches and because of the way the current in the Gulf of Mexico runs, we don’t anticipate any. As of June 23rd, NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) reports that “the offshore forecast has been temporarily stopped due to small amounts of oil offshore, the absence of recent observations confirming significant amounts of oil in offshore areas, and the large separation between the loop current complex and the oil slick. Forecasts will resume if the threat returns.”
While Sarasota remains confident about our waters and beaches remaining oil free, government agencies are preparing, just in case. "We are not in imminent danger at this time. It's just a case of being proactive and being prepared. That's what this county does," said county commissioner Joe Barbetta.
